Edelman stated his case against the NFL recently in a day-long appeal of his four-game suspension for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy.
Edelman's representatives argued during his appeal last Monday that mistakes made in testing and other processes led to the suspension, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported. The evidence presented was not enough to vacate the suspension or decrease the length of the ban. The Patriots are used to not having Tom Brady's favorite receiver on the field. Edelman missed the entire 2017 season after suffering a torn ACL during a preseason tilt. Now fully recovered, he took part in the Patriots' offseason program and was on the field during mandatory minicamp. He will miss the Patriots’ first four regular-season games against the Texans, Jaguars, Lions and Dolphins. Julian Edelman Jersey .
Even without Edelman, it’s a crowded group with players like Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell, Matthew Slater, and Phillip Dorsett all returning. The real danger is for Edelman, who was already in jeopardy of getting left behind by the shifting roster. He’s due to count $3.7 million against the Patriots’ salary cap in 2018 — the most for any receiver on the roster — and then $4.67 million in 2019. Edelman needs to show that he’s worth it, and that’s going to be really difficult when other receivers are getting targets from Tom Brady early in the year instead.
