Just one season removed from a six-catch performance in the Patriots' victory over Atlanta in Super Bowl LI, wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell's tenure in New England may soon be coming to an end, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The New England Patriots are looking for a trading partner for wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell.
Per Tom Pelissero’s sources, Mitchell appears to be the "odd man out" even with Julian Edelman missing the first four games of the season due to a PED suspension. The Patriots are actively seeking a trade partner to move Mitchell.
Mitchell, a former Georgia wide receiver was drafted by New England in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, started six games for the Patriots in 2016 and accounted for 401 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games.
Mitchell, who tore his ACL in his right knee in 2013, was sidelined all last season with another knee injury.
Pelissero also reported Mitchell underwent a procedure Monday on his knee. “Adding to the Malcolm Mitchell story: he went to have a procedure on his knee today, per source,” Pelissero reported. “Knee problems kept Mitchell out all of last season. Explains the (Patriots) mounting frustration.”
So much so that the Patriots are expected to make a decision on Mitchell’s future with the team in the next couple of days. Mitchell seems to be broken beyond repair. If there is even a chance he misses this season you need to let him go. At this point, he is a waste of a roster spot.
Mitchell definitely has the skill to be a successful wideout. In his only season, he caught 32 balls for 401 yards and 4 touchdowns. In the Super Bowl, he had 6 catches for 70 yards.
